Academy of Human Resources Development (HRD) annual conference in Arlington, Virginia

The Academy of Human Resources Development (HRD) hosted an annual conference in Arlington, Virginia from February 13-17, 2013.

Senior Lecturer, Dr. Sanghamitra Chaudhuri received the Elwood F. Holton III Research Excellence Award for her article “ Reverse Mentoring: A Social Exchange Tool for Keeping the Boomers Engaged and Millennials Committed” with Dr Rajashi Ghosh at Drexel University. This article appears in the 2012 annual volume of Human Resource Development Review.

Dr. Sanghamitra Chaudhuri also presented “The Relationship between Training Outsourcing and Organizational Commitment” with Dr. Kenneth Bartlett from University of Minnesota.  She also participated in an innovative session about Research on India HRD (she is in the steering committee of India HRD Special Interest Group).

Dr. Sunny Munn participated in Panel Symposia about Reframing Individual Development and Organizational Change in addition to her presentation with Dr. Sanghamitra Chaudhuri. She also presented “Work-life Balance in India and the U.S.: A Cross-Cultural Literature Review of Dual Earner Couples”  with Dr. Sanghamitra Chaudhuri.

Our Ph.D. students, Jieun You and Brenda Kraner presented “Formalized Informal Learning, Social Relationship, and Organizational Performance in the Workplace” and “The Impact of Virtual vs. Face-to-Face Coaching on the Transfer of Leadership Skills”, respectively.

The next AHRD conference will be held in Houston, Texas from February 19-22, 2014.

Submit a proposal for the 2013 Fall Research Conference for APPAM!

The Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) is now accepting proposals for the 2013 Fall Research Conference. The theme for the conference is Power of the Past, Force for the Future and this year’s conference will be held in November in Washington, DC. The conference is aimed to build on knowledge and experience by examining the current state of research and analysis across critical policy issues, as well as aiming to offer an environment to explore the place of research and analysis in future policy deliberations. Please submit your proposal by clicking https://appam.confex.com/appam/2013/cfp.cgi.

The 2013 Annual Conference on Leadership and Civic Engagement

The 2013 Annual Conference on Leadership and Civic Engagement is scheduled for Sunday, March 3, 2013. This is a one-day, free conference for any and all Ohio State students.

The conference features:

  • Small group workshop sessions on various topics related to leadership and service
  • Interactive institute-style session creating a common learning experience for all conference attendees
  • Addresses from University and/or community leaders

The foundation of the conference is the Gallup Organization’s Strengths Quest assessment and theory of Strengths-based leadership. Participants can choose from diverse educational workshops and presentations by Ohio State faculty and staff as well as Columbus community members. Small group discussions and team-building activities led by the Student Leadership Advocates and the Pay It Forward committee.

The conference’s educational sessions will cover organizational development and culture, giving and receiving feedback, non-profit management, Innovation and entrepreneurship, creative marketing, reflection, peer leadership, service-learning, team-building and communication.

The 32nd Annual Research to Practice Conference in Adult and Higher Education

The 32nd Annual Research to Practice Conference in Adult and Higher Education (formerly known as Midwest Research to Practice in Adult, Continuing, Community, & Extension Education) will be held in September 2013 and is now accepting proposals in six categories:

  • Practitioner Concerns
  • Reports on Research
  • Evaluation Studies
  • Methods and Issues in Research
  • Best Practices
  • Trends and Issues in Higher Education (New in 2013)

Proposals should not exceed three double-spaced pages. Email proposals to r2p@lindenwood.edu no later than March 1, 2013. You will be notified by June 1, 2013.

 

Writing Matters in a Changing World

The Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing (CSTW) will host a conference on Saturday, February 2nd, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the Ohio Union.  Dr. Carolyn Miller (NCSU) is the keynote speaker and there will be 50 professionally diverse colleagues presenting 25 panels.

Topics to be covered will include: critical issues facing writing programs, writing in a digital age, interdisciplinary approaches to writing and composing, the writing experience of English Language Learners and professionals, K-12, and civic approaches to writing.

Call for Student Member Conference Volunteers

Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD) is calling for student member volunteers to help volunteer at the registration desk for the AHRD 2013. International Research Conference in Crystal City, VA. Volunteers’ conference fees will be reimbursed according to their work hours as follows:

•5 hours = $50 reimbursement

•10 hours = $100 reimbursement

•15 hours = Full reimbursement (Up to $260)

Volunteers need to register before the early bird deadline of January 15 to receive a full reimbursement of the conference. Reimbursements will be provided after completion of the conference and once volunteer’s total number of hours has been determined.  Please visit the website of AHRD at http://www.ahrd.org  for more information.

Food N’ Thought Sessions

The Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD) is accepting proposals for one hour brown bag sessions about a scholarly topic of interest including globalization, leadership, organizational learning, spirituality and book reviews.

Food N’ Thought (FNT) Sessions call for proposals includes three types of FNT sessions:

•  Research & Practice: Scholars from research and practice provide their perspectives on a scholarly topic

•  Research Horizons: innovative dialogue about the topics of current or future research interests

•  Book Club: review and dialogue on a recent book of interest to members

Submission guidelines:

Please identify type of the session (Research & Practice, Research Horizons, or Book Club) and submit a 500 word maximum proposal and a 150-200 word abstract in one Microsoft Word file to Kate Guerdat.  Indicate your preferred day (Friday or Saturday) and contact information, including title, position, institution, phone and email.

The deadline for proposal submission is December 5, 2012 with anticipated notification on December 20, 2012.
